Margaret Honda Equinox Screening and Farewell Party 15 December 2024 Arsenal Institute for Film and Video Art, Berlin

Cinema can do one thing above all: create spaces. Space of experience, of thought, of encounter, of remembrance, utopian spaces. Spaces in which mistakes and contradictions have their place, rationality and irrationality, dream and insight. Equinox (2019) by Margaret Honda shows the cinema auditorium in which all that takes place: in 21 minutes, it emerges from the darkness in order to disappear back into it afterwards. What looks like a black-and-white film is actually a color film. In all her films, Honda uses the fundamental laboratory techniques of analogue film. She refers to all those involved in making a film and projecting it as the actual ecosystem of cinema: laboratory staff, projectionists and the audience. What film could be more suitable to celebrate the Arsenal's farewell from Potsdamer Platz and to get the party going to which we would like to invite both you and all the partners who have played an active role in shaping the last 25 years from myriad different perspectives.
