USTA Album Release & Concert spalarnia by Wojciech Kosma 29 May 2022 Galerie Molitor, Berlin

spalarnia is Polish performance artist Wojciech Kosma’s latest musical project. With a background in composition and computer science, Kosma previously had a successful career in contemporary art, exploring affect and intimate interactions through acclaimed pieces performed in places such as Tate Modern, London, Chisenhale Gallery, London Museum of Modern Art Warsaw, Volksbühne, Berlin and Interstate Projects, NYC, among others.

With spalarnia, he continues to channel these themes through poetic pop tracks that draw equally from traditional Polish folk and current dance music vocabulary. Kosma places special attention on his lyrics, which evolve from his poetic writings. By choosing to sing exclusively in Polish, he’s carving a new niche in popular music, while striving to prove that Eastern European artists can be successful in the hegemonic Western market. His endeavors come in a climate where Polish artists, despite their visibility in their home country and in diaspora in places like Germany or the UK, are virtually unknown to the specialist media and festival circuit outside Poland.
